It is official: Zara is flirtier and more fashion-conscious than ever
before. We covet the gorgeous, low-cost, on-trend items that fill their
racks. This season's clever fusion of styles makes shopping here
absolutely addictive.
It Just Gets Better & Better...
The Zara look is carefully put together yet laid-back. It's a considered nonchalance, an elegant dishevelment, created by a fusion of styles and layering of contrasting materials. And, quite how they manage to be so On-Trend is beyond the comprehension of mere mortals - Zara just gets better and better!
Clean-cut lines and sober minimalism in classic grey, black and white are a hallmark of this season. Here are plenty of timeless garments that fit the message of austerity (see the stunning asymmetric black coat with leather trim, as pictured), but the key is to wear them with an air of edge and mystery.
Zara's designers - with their billowing shirts and filmy dresses, with pleating, drapes and puffs in dark blue and black tones - lead us into a dark romantic take on fairies, witches and lake nymphs. Silhouettes are elongated thanks to wispy chiffons and faded floral prints in a folk style that comes with long fur waistcoats, oversized blouses, fringed footwear and lace edgings.
A contrasting look centres on tartan. Checks in all sizes are everywhere to be seen: in micro and macro versions, as well as small-check window pattern, Scottish and Indian Madras. Aggressive and sophisticated, they feature in layer on overlapping layer, and on the full range of accessories and garments. Hot tip: think 1970s punk rather than Scottish country dancing to strike a contemporary note.
We love the explosion of East European colour contrasts and military influence. Zara's legendary good-value jackets and coats this season come adorned with gold trim and Ottoman fastenings. Elaborate looks inspired by Russian folklore - reddish, orange, white and black tones - can be softened with Paisley prints, passementerie and embroidery inspired by ancient tunics and oriental blouses. Ankle boots, cinch boots, buckles and prominent trim hold the look together.
Enjoy the wealth of ideas. And remember: there is little room for moderation!
