Starring Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson and Anita Briem On a quest to find out what happened to his missing brother, Brendan Fraser, and his nephew follow the trail left by Jules Verne to a secret world. Follow them as they trek through the weird and dangerous world - at the centre of the earth! In this up-and-coming title, Journey to the Centre of the Earth will show the all new possibilities of this medium, as well as being a thoroughly exciting title in its own right. Watch out for the ODEON digital logo next to listings or ask a member of our team for details. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince CaspianRelease Date: 27th June Directed by Andrew Adamson. Starring Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William Moseley, Anna Popplewell and Sergio Castellitto Recalled to Narnia in its time of need, the four Pevensie children find a world much changed from the one they loved. A race of humans called the Telmarines rule the land, forcing back the native talking animals and magical creatures. Caspian of the title, prince to the Telmarines, has escaped from the clutches of his evil Uncle Miraz, who has claimed the throne. The desperate Prince engages the help of the native Narnians to help regain his throne and bring peace back to Narnia. Promising to be both darker (of course) and more epic than the first, the whole industry is talking about how Disney has mortgaged the ‘House of Mouse’ for this film, so expect spectacular effects, huge battles, a whole new range of creatures and, best of all, Eddie Izzard voicing the well-loved and bolshy rapier-wielding mouse, Reepicheep. HancockRelease date: 4th July Directed by Peter Berg Starring Will Smith, Jason Bateman, Charlize Theron Not the hangdog British comedian of course, but the new Will Smith film. Different from your average superhero movie, Smith plays Hancock as edgy, conflicted, sarcastic and misunderstood. He might get the job done and save countless lives but not without leaving jaw-dropping damage in his wake. The good people of Los Angeles have started to wonder what they did to deserve this guy. Saving the life of PR man Jason Bateman may mark a turn for the better for Hancock, until he meets and falls for Bateman’s attractive wife, played by Charlize Theron. She thinks he's a loser even with his superpowers but can he prove her - and everyone else wrong? The MistRelease Date: 4th July Directed by Frank Darabont Starring Thomas Jane David and his young son Billy are among the terrified townspeople trapped in a small town grocery store by a strange, otherworldly mist. David is one of the first to realise there are things lurking in the mist – deadly horrifying things. Their survival depends on everyone in the store pulling together, but as the small town rivalries, grudges and hatreds emerge in the claustrophobic atmosphere, he wonders who is more monstrous: the shapes in the mist, or the people inside? Based on the Stephen King short story of the same name and directed by the only person who has ever captured King's work successfully on celluloid, Frank Darabont, of Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile fame brings us this chilling and claustrophobic examination of human nature crumbling in the face of fear and panic. Kung Fu PandaRelease Date: 4th July Directed by Mark Osbourne and John Stevenson Starring Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie Pandas aren’t known for their Kung Fu abilities. As far as we know, they’re one of the few animals without a style named after them. This doesn’t stop Jack Black’s character Po, a Kung Fu fanatic who doesn’t know any actual Kung Fu. He works in a noodle restaurant all day and idolises his heroes, the Furious Five, dreaming of adventures and kick-ass martial arts moves. He might have gone on dreaming forever, but an attempt to see his heroes in action ends in disaster and he finds himself hailed as the Chosen One. Is the body of a Kung Fu genius hidden within the affect of years of extra noodles? Po doesn’t much time to find out as the Valley comes under threat from the greatest evil Kung Fu Master ever. Wall ERelease date: 18th July Directed by Andrew Stanton at Pixar Ever since that little bouncing baby lamp played ball with mommy lamp, everyone has fallen for Pixar's creations. From toys to monsters, retired superheroes to rodents with a penchant for French cuisine - can anyone resist the mix of wonderfully emotive characters and strong, simple story lines? Wall E is no different, and may be the strongest creation yet. It is amazing how Pixar animates what is basically a lump of metal with a couple of eyes stuck on top into what seems like a real being. The Wall E slapstick moments are among the funniest in the film but he also truly emotes and it can be quite heartbreaking at times. This film is a beautiful creation - funny, poignant, exciting and has already been hailed as a new classic. We were lucky enough to attend a sneak preview and loved every minute. Especially the sight of a screen full of hardened, cynical cinema managers blubbing into their free 'I love Wall E' T-shirts. City of MenDirected by: Paulo Morelli & Fernando Mereilles Companion piece rather than sequel to 2003 hit City Of God, this film continues the stories of some of the main players from the first film and the equally applauded TV show of the same name. The focus is again on childhood friendships growing up in the crime-ridden favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The hard choices and lack of chances faced by its inhabitants remain at the centre of the story, along with the energy and shockingly realistic portrayal of coming of age in one of the toughest cities in the world. The Dark KnightDirected by Chris Nolan Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman The movie that diehard film fans have been waiting with baited breath for, ever since the first Joker teaser posters started appearing and further fuelled by what looks to be a heart-stopping performance by the late and much missed Heath Ledger. Chris Nolan, director of indie classics such as Memento may have seemed like an odd choice a few years back as Batman Begins went into production, but on release he was proved as a perfect choice. Bringing a new take on the Dark Knight a million miles from the kooky, sadly-missing-the-point turn the previous franchise had descended to, Nolan and British actor Christian Bale have re-energised the character. The Dark Knight is emphatically not a new origin story for The Joker, although it does seem to draw from the ideas expressed in classic graphic novel, The Killing Joke (which actually provided much of the inspiration for Tim Burton’s first Batman: The Movie) in the antagonism between the two men and the implications it has for Batman himself. Would The Joker exist without The Batman? And how does he handle a man so intent on destruction without becoming what he hates? At this point the plot is being kept very hush hush, but it does seem a safe bet to say that we'll experience an original story for Harvey Dent, otherwise known as Twoface, the high-flying district attorney who is turned into a psychotic obsessed with dual natures and the number 2 after a horrific attack ruins half his face and his belief in the rule of justice. |
